Decorative trench art artillery shell we believe made from the battle Arras in 1917 in WWI.
Trench art was a name given to art made from military materials often by soldiers in the trenches, prisoners of war and by civilians far behind the front lines .
This particular shell has a striking and powerful piece of art work depicting foliage growing through a fallen soldiers helmet.
Base of shell is stamped ‘37-85, PDPs-100 .2.16’.
Would make a great showpiece ornament, desk tidy, knick-knaks storage.
Overall length: 94mm
Diameter: 43mm approx
Please note: there is a pin hole through the base, please see photos for condition.
