Decorative vase made from a WW1 German artillery shell. Trench art was a name given to art made from military materials often by soldiers in the trenches, prisoners of war and by civilians far behind the front lines . This particular shell is decorated with an Anchor and marked ‘Vimy’ which we believe relates to the commune in France or the Battle of Vimy ridge probably where this art was fashioned during WW1. Base of shell is stamped ‘Mar 1917, Patronenfabrik Karlsruhe, S301, SP255’.
