I&H Sorby Firmer Gouge - Boxwood - Fingernail profile - 11mm (the handle has a 4cm hairline shrinkage split, sold as a collectable, seemed a shame to separate this tool from the others when they have probably been together for 100 years).
These old gouges have lovely old patinated brass ferrules.
The person who sold us these gouges said the tools belonged to his grandad who was 'Leslie George Hyland. He was born in 1902 and died in 1982: He became a master wheelwright and worked on the Lord Mayor’s State Coach. During the 2nd World War he was asked to make and supply stretchers to the Army'.
I&H Sorby tools were sold from approx. 1830-1920.
Condition: 11mm gouge with boxwood handle has a 4cm hairline shrinkage split (sold as a collectable), please see photographs for condition.
